Storyteller

Doula Brittany Touris

Combining creativity with practical solutions, I support people through pregnancy, birth, and beyond.

I became a doula because I believe…

  • That everyone should be empowered to make their own choices about their health
  • That sharing factual, evidence-based information is essential
  • That our lifetime health begins in the womb
  • That everyone has a unique purpose here but we are all connected through the experiences of birth, life, and death
  • That child-bearing bodies are sacred in that they hold the ability to continuously renew life
  • That our nation’s history of oppression and colonialism continues to impact healthcare today
  • That our nation has a history of not listening to women and childbearing people through vulnerable times and that doula work is one way to begin to remedy this

My approach to birth work is different because my model of care is based on…

  • Cultural awareness and community building as essential parts of healing our world
  • Storytelling that connects us and carries wisdom through generations
  • Movement and other forms of creativity as a way to channel energy, lower stress, connect with our purpose, and foster joy

This is what people have said about me:

“Brittany was encouraging to the laboring mother and very supportive to the family. She helped keep mother comfortable and supported her through the postpartum. She is very sweet and helpful.”
-Sandra Lobaina, LM, IBCLC (Natural BirthWorks Partner)

“Before I signed up for the Empower 6-week Childbirth Education Series, the information I had was in chaotic, bite-sized pieces. This course was very organized and flowed well. I was hesitant at first to sign up because I wanted to make sure it would be a good return on my investment of time. It was well worth it, even as a second-time mom. I now feel more confident, educated, and prepared. I feel more calm and collected.”
-Amanda L.

“I felt like I knew nothing before I took Brittany’s Empower Childbirth Series. After taking it, I feel like I have a definite understanding of the medical procedures behind labor. I know about risk vs. reward and to ask, ‘Can I have a moment to think this over?’ I feel like I have more confidence going into my birthing experience because of this course.”
-Christie P.
